2021 Departure Dates & Costs

Departures eastward: One departure per week from Vancouver on Fridays in either economy seating or Private cabin sleeper (1 or 2 persons) through the Canadian Rockies to Jasper or onwards to Winnipeg. From Jasper to Vancouver once per week departing on Wednesdays. Due to limited space - advance bookings are essential.

Day 1 Vancouver

Arrive in Vancouver and spend time exploring this scenic city on your own. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 2 Vancouver To Kamloops

Travel onboard Visa Rail via Kamloops, in the heart of British Columbia’s interior. On today’s journey you will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of theFraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like environment of the BC Interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Overnight on the train in your cabin.

Day 3 Kamloops To Jasper

Your journey continues eastwards to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Once again you will see a spectacular array of scenery as you travel across ranchlands, along rocky lakeshores, over high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that form part of the rich rail history of the Canadian Rockies. Enjoy passing through the Premier Range, with eleven peaks named after Canadian and British prime ministers. The dominant peak is Mount Sir Wilfred Laurier. Mount Terry Fox is to the east. Watch for Mt. Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies at 3954 meters (12,972 ft.). Arrival into Jasper late afternoon with transfer service to hotel. Overnight Jasper. Breakfast & lunch served in the dining car aboard VIA Rail.

Day 4 Jasper (Maligne Canyon)

Full day in the Maligne Valley and Maligne Canyon of Jasper National Park. We are about 3.5 km on good paths before it turns into a beautiful turquoise Maligne Lake, which is surrounded by snow-capped mountain peaks. After our hike, we enjoy one of the best on a boat trips on Maligne Lake with some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes of Canada. Return along the lake to Jasper. Watch for wildlife and keep your camera ready. Jasper has an abundance of wildlife including bear, caribou, mountain goats and a host of smaller animal life such as lynx and bobcat. This evening is yours to relax in your comfortable accommodation or enjoy the quiet night life of Jasper. Overnight Jasper.

Day 5 Jasper / Athabasca Glacier - Lake Louise

canada banff summer 1Early morning departure on your Rockies Discovery Tour to Lake Louise. This is an excellent way to see the Canadian Rockies travelling north to south. Your driver will provide commentary including geological information, and historical facts about the places you are visiting. Stops include Athabasca Falls for a short hike, and Stutfield Glacier. Stop also at the Icefields Parkway to see the Athabasca Glacier. Leaving the glacier, we continue along the Mistaya Lake to the canyon of the same name.  If open ( currently closed) we can find a breathtaking view of the turquoise Peyto Lake. Look for wildlife along the way, and enjoy the vistas along one of the most scenic drives in the world.  Early evening arrival into Lake Louise. Overnight. 

Day 6 Lake Louise - Banff

Morning to photograph Moraine Lake, which is framed by 10 mountain peaks. We depart Lake Louise and drive beside the Bow River to Banff, stopping at Johnston Canyon enroute.  Johnston Creek empties into the canyon in several spectacular waterfalls. Arrive into Banff we enter Tunnel Mountain Drive and the Hoodoo Trail with a panoramic view of the Bow River and the Banff Valley. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the town of Banff. 2 nights.

Day 7 Banff

½ day tour of Banff including a Gondola ride up Sulphur Mountain to get the scenic view atop the local mountain above the city of Banff. From its summit we enjoy a last panoramic view of the mountains the Canadian Rockies. Other activities in Banff include a short hike along the Bow River on a trail that takes us to Bow Falls. From Bow River the mighty Banff Spring Hotel can be seen in the distance. Leisure time this afternoon allows for personal exploration of the shops, restaurants, museums and art galleries located in abundance around town.  Overnight Banff.

Day 8 Banff / Calgary

Door to door transfer service is provided from Banff to Calgary today. Choose between morning, afternoon, or early evening transfer service. Drop off to downtown Calgary or the Calgary Int'l Airport.
